    Cephalosporins are a structurally-related class of Beta-lactam Antibiotics. These antibacterials are more resistant to beta-lactamase than the Penicillin-based antibiotics. The cephalosporins are subclassified structurally into "generations" which have different antibiotic spectra. It appears that cross-reactivity between penicillins and cephalosporins is more likely associated with structurally similar side chains rather than the beta-lactam ring itself. 10 For instance, amoxicillin has a side chain identical to that of first-generation cephalosporins cefadroxil and cefprozil, whereas ampicillin has a side chain.
